Trial pack: Erythritol & Xylitol (50g & 50g)

Xylitol is a type of sweetener called a sugar alcohol and is found in some plants. It looks and tastes like sugar, but has 40% fewer calories. Xylitol doesn’t spike insulin and barely affects blood sugar. It also inhibits bacteria that cause plaque and tooth decay, whereas most sugars feed those bacteria. It tastes like and behaves almost identically to sugar, too. You can sub it 1:1 for sugar.

Xylitol is a popular sweetener because of its similarity with sugar but compared to erythritol, taking large amount can cause bloating an indigestion. We recommend:

  • Test both xylitol and erythritol individually to see whether you like how they taste, and whether you feel OK with them
  • Experiment blending both together. Many say 50:50 mixture works well.

READ - IMPORTANT!!!!

If you feed your dogs with food you cook, and you want to substitute sugar to sweetener, it is strongly recommended NOT to use xylitol as it is fetal to them.

[Warnings]

Consuming a lot of it (50g+ in one sitting) can cause GI distress and bloating, and if you’re sensitive to FODMAPS (from leaky gut, SIBO, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, for example), even a small amount of xylitol may cause indigestion. For this reason, it may be advisable to combine erythritol to reduce the GI distress.

Never give xylitol to your dog. They can’t digest it, which means even a small amount can be fatal for them.

We will be publishing a blog about sweeteners soon.
