Our finest quality, wholly organic matcha powder comes from organic green tea farms from Uji, Kyoto. The tea grows on healthy soil packed with beneficial microbes, and is in rich in tannin, the naturally occurring antioxidant.

We work with a group of farmers in Uji, who have been dedicated to organic farming for decades. They are certified by various organizations:

  • JAS organic certification(HOAS)
  • EU organic certification
  • USDA National Organic Program
  • Canadian Organic Regime(COR)
  • U.S. Food and Drug Administration ("FDA")

Here is Tomo san and his beautiful family! We visit them every time we go back to see our family in Kyoto!

Unlike common matcha, which is ground by high-powered machine, our ceremonial-grade matcha is stone-ground using traditional granite grinders – the process is ultra-slow but minimises the oxidization of the active components, thereby retaining the maximum nutritional benefits and giving the tea such a vibrant colour.

While our culinary-grade matcha is still a premium grade matcha compared to many mediocre quality products on the market, the difference between this particular grade and our Ceremonial Premium grade is that the ingredients of this powder are the first few leaves collected over two harvests- the first and second.  The inclusion of more mature leaves makes the tea less mild, but the potency is just as high as the ceremonial premium quality.

As with the ceremonial quality product, the culinary-grade matcha is stone-ground using traditional granite grinders– the process is ultra-slow but minimises the oxidization of the active components, thereby retaining the maximum nutritional benefits and giving the tea such a vibrant colour.

[How to drink]

Individual preference dictates how you might prefer to drink yours, but we recommend starting with a small dose - 1/4 teaspoon per cup. The powder will not completely dissolve so, if not drunk immediately, is likely to set.

Moderation is key: while it may be delicious, consuming large amounts of matcha may upset your stomach and is not recommended.

[Typical usage]

Our ceremonial-grade matcha is of premium quality and is intended to be used for drinking. If you are using matcha powder for baking or cooking, choose our CULINARY-grade matcha powder.

[Packaging]

In order to provide our customers with the best possible price, we pack our premium quality products in a BPA-free, kraftspaper packaging in order to minimize the cost. Although the bag is well-sealed, we recommend that you place it in an air-tight container to ensure that the powder does not get exposed to oxygen. This will help ensure it retains its freshness and taste.
